Sensex ends 70 points lower on profit booking

The benchmark Sensex snapped the 11-day rally by falling 70 points on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Friday due to heavy profit-selling by funds at the existing higher levels.T

he 30-share index of the Bombay Stock Exchange, which was on an upward march for the last 11 straight trading sessions to reach close to 18,000 points, shed 69.90 points to close at 17,777.14, after touching the day's high of 17,890.49 points and low of 17,494.70.

Similarly, National Stock Exchange's Nifty settled lower by 2.15 points at 5,208.65, after touching an intra-day high of 5,233.10 points and a low of 5,126.05.

A steep rise in metal and capital goods stocks averted any major fall in in the Sensex and Nifty. Metal index surged the most by 223.35 points to 14,384.87, followed by capital goods index, which rose 184.13 points to 15,253.33. Consumer durable index shot up by 130.26 points to 4,870.23.

The Birla family is one of the foremost business houses in India. Their businesses vary from petrochemicals and textiles to automobiles and Infocomm. The founder of the Birla Group was Baldeo Das Birla, a member of the successful Marwari community from the westerly state of Rajasthan. He moved to Calcutta to set up the family business during the late nineteenth century, and with it established close ties to the freedom movement of the time. The Birla's are known for their work and support of the nation during the freedom struggle, and the family were close friends of Mahatma Gandhi.

IIIT offers various PhD programmes

Applications are invited for pursuing PhD Degree in the Institute in various areas of Information Technology, Management, Information Security and Bioinformatics.

Details:~ The emoluments for JRF is Rs 12,000 per month~ In addition to this, Rs 20,000 per annum is for contingency and HRA pm as per rules. ~ Similarly there will be an enhancement of Fellowship after two years to Rs 14,000 pm and Rs 15,000 pm in 3rd and 4th years.
